Hatcher Alpine Xperience is a 501c(3) tax-exempt organization developing Skeetawk; a new alpine ski, snowboard, and recreation facility in Hatcher Pass (Palmer) Alaska. We are hiring Ski and Snowboard Instructors to teach group and private lessons to guests of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Level 1 or higher PSIA/AASI Certification, or equivalent.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • At least 1 year prior Ski/Snowboard instructing experience.
  • Able to Ski/Snowboard for extended periods of time, requiring lifting, bending and twisting
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work outdoors in cold climates for extended periods of time. 

Position Requirements:

The Ski/Snowboard Instructor is responsible for teaching group and private lessons to guests of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Elements of this responsibility include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assess student abilities in a reasonable amount of time to develop a strategy for improving their skill
  • Provide verbal and written instructions to students to improve their skiing or snowboarding abilities
  • Moderate athletic ability is required to perform all job related tasks
  • Work in good cooperation with rental staff, ski patrollers, lift operators, and groomers to ensure a safe a enjoyable guest experience

This is a part time seasonal position with an average of 10 hours per week during the operating season. This position will begin part time with scheduled training dates in December, and the season closing in April. Shifts will be available Thursday – Sunday. Lessons are scheduled around the instructors regular schedule, but a commitment to be available more than 50% of regularly scheduled operating days is required for employment. 

Rate of Pay: $24.00 – $26.00 hourly. Pay varies by level of certification and experience  

Position Summary: 

The Facility Maintenance Technician (FMT) will support the mission of skeetawk by maintaining the infrastructure that has been developed. The FMT will be responsible for all repair and preventative maintenance on Skeetawk buildings and vehicles. The FMT will support the lift operations department with lift maintenance and support the grooming department with Snowcat maintenance. The FMT will also work in conjunction with the General Manager to support on-site capital project construction. 

Reports to: General Manager

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in facility maintenance
  • Heavy equipment operator experience. 
  • Construction experience including; biking/ hiking trail building, general carpentry, welding/ fabrication, general electrical, and general plumbing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on Snowcats or other over snow machinery
  • Experience operating and maintaining ski lifts
  • Experience in project management

POSITION DETAILS:

This is currently a full-time hourly position, expected to be 30-40 hours per week

 

Rate of Pay: $40,000.00 – $60,000.00 annual salary. Pay varies by level of certification and experience 

Position Summary: 

The Mountain Manager will function in a planning and supervisory role to ensure the organization meets all industry standards and best practices for ski area operation. Mountain Manager ensures ski area operating and safety plans and training resources comply with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. The Mountain Manager functions as the on-mountain risk manager; and may fill a variety of positions to supplement operations roles across departments as needed. 

The Mountain Manager trains on-mountain staff and volunteers; and consults other management level staff in best practices for ski area and recreation program development. The Mountain Manager directly oversees the grooming, lift operations, and ski patrol departments for winter operations, and the mountain biking, hiking, and other associated outdoor activities in summertime operations. 

Reports to: General Manager

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in ski area operations
  • Thorough knowledge of ski area and recreation program development and risk management. 
  • Knowledge of ANSI B77, state skier statutes, and NSAA standards
  • Leadership and “Train the Trainer” level experience in ski patrol, snow safety, lift evacuation, emergency response, workplace safety, and accident investigation roles. 
  • Member of the Accident Investigation Team. 
  • Experience in permit administration, project management, and ski area maintenance. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fill mountain operations roles including; lifts operations, ski patrol, and grooming.
  • Experience with vehicle and facility maintenance. 
  • Heavy equipment operator experience. 
  • Construction experience including; biking/ hiking trail building, general carpentry, welding/ fabrication, and general electrical. 
  • Experience with ski area risk management including ski patrol, terrain parks, accident investigation, and industry insurance programs. 

POSITION DETAILS:

This is currently a full-time salaried position. Flexible work plans are available in summer and fall; and the individual must be available to work weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain focus on good customer service and guest safety during hectic and busy operating periods. 
  • Ability to follow instructions and re-create daily opening, closing, and set up procedures with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to responsibly manage; sales transactions, cash handling, and till accounting. Experience with point of sale and computer systems is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience as ski shop technician, ski school, or sporting goods customer service agent
  • Previous experience with binding testing equipment & ski tuning equipment is preferred. 

Position Responsibilities:

Ski/Snowboard Rental Technicians are responsible to perform customer service and safety related operations for sizing, adjusting, and safely releasing rental equipment to customers. Elements of this responsibility include, but are not limited to: 

  • Sizing and adjusting ski and snowboard rental equipment and accident investigation paperwork
  • Completing Marker Rental Technician certification within 10 days of hire
  • Performing Season Pass and Membership card distribution and proper record keeping
  • Performing ticket sales and other customer service duties such as a knowledge of daily conditions and hazards
  • Assisting in all other areas of operations including snow removal, lift operations, and guest services yurt staff duties
  • Train to respond in emergency situations such as lift evacuations and other hazards to guests. 

Position Schedule: 

This is a part time seasonal position with an average of 20-30 hours per week during the operating season. Regular Schedule is Thursday – Sunday.
