For over 50 years, a ski area in Hatcher Pass was a dream of residents in Southcentral Alaska. Skeetawk is the first organization to pull off the task, driven by our local community. Phase 1a of a 3-phase build out plan was started in 2015 and opened to customers in 2020.

The next Phase 1b will only be accomplished with the same community support that got this ski area dream started. Once completed, this phase will open up 500 acres of lift accessed skiing/snowboarding terrain to our community!

There’s never been a better time to invest in the ski industry! Due to a renewed focus on the health benefits of outdoor recreation, the ski industry across the United States is experiencing an unprecedented rise in customer numbers. The Alaskan ski industry is experiencing the same rise participants.

Skeetawk’s mountain terrain is leased from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and includes over 1100 acres of skiable terrain and 2600 feet of vertical gain. Skeetawk’s area is unique in that once completed, it will be the only ski area in Alaska with lifts to the summit of not just 1, but 2 peaks! Skeetawk’s terrain has a broad range of terrain from beginner to advanced runs, and everything in between.

In order to see Phase 1b to completion, the board must source funding for a Day Lodge/Education Center ($10 million), the Mid-mountain Chairlift ($10 million), and other supplementary costs like Avalanche Mitigation infrastructure, utilities, and support buildings.
